Planning applications & enforcement

Find out if you require planning permission for your development, make an application, comment on an application, view an existing or determined application and contact us regarding possible breaches of planning control.

Sedgemoor District Council's Development Management team work on behalf of local people to protect, enhance and develop the environment, for now and for the future. Our role covers most aspects of planning from building an extension on your house or individual developments to major housing schemes and the protection of the historic built environment.

Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)

Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) was introduced by the Planning Act 2008 (as amended), and changes the way that financial contributions from new development is collected.  Sedgemoor District Council's CIL Charging Schedule came into force on 01 April 2015.  Please visit the link above for more information and guidance.

  • Planning Duty Officer

    The Planning Duty Officer service can assist you to with any problems you may face before submitting an application or planning general advice, including current planning applications.

  • Planning online - view or comment on an application

    Have you been notified of a planning application in your local area? Planning Online allows you to view details of planning applications that have been or are being considered by the Council, to monitor the progress of an application and to search a weekly list of applications received and decided.

  • Pre-Planning Application Advice

    Sedgemoor District Council is proactive in encouraging pre-application discussions.

  • Building Conservation

    Building Conservation is "...the process of managing change to a significant place in its setting in ways that will best sustain its heritage values, while recognising opportunities to reveal or reinforce those values for present and future generations." (Historic England, Principle 4.2, Conservation Principles: Policies and Guidance for the Sustainable Management of the Historic Environment, 2008).

  • Making a planning application

    On this page you will be able to apply online for approval or download the relevant forms. In common with all Local Planning Authorities, Sedgemoor District Council uses the national standard application forms.

  • After the decision has been made

    If your application has recently been determined that may not mean the end of the process. You may wish to appeal against a decision, apply for non-material minor amendments, apply for removal or variation of conditions.

    The Planning Enforcement team investigates allegations of breaches of planning control.
